It's a Girl

Wednesday was a very good for many reason.  Our doctor's appointment went very well.  The baby was being a little uncooperative with the technician, but she ended up getting all the shots she needed including the one that let us know she is a girl.  At the end, she let us she the face in 4d, which was cool to see.
After the doctor, we picked up my Aunt and cousin from Duke and dropped Pete off at the house. We went to lunch and shopping.  This little girl is going to be very well dressed.  I don't know what it is, but everything is cuter when it is really small, even socks.  We dropped my Aunt and cousin back off at Duke, so they could attend the basketball game.  It hurts that relatives are such diehard Duke fans, but they are family, so we deal with it.  It also helps that Duke sucks and lost that night.  Go Heels!

Last night, I went shopping and bought the nursery bedding and finished my registry at BRU.  Pete says that he is going to have to get used to all the pink, but I love the bedding. I think that I starting to nest, but need to pace myself.  I think I will start working on other projects that I would like to finish before the baby is born.

My new love

I have a new love in my life.  It makes sleeping through the night much more enjoyable.

It takes up a lot of the bed, but I can finally sleep almost through the night. Since I bought it, I only get up once to go to the bathroom and sleep the rest of the night on my side comfortably. True love. Pete does not like it because it pokes him and takes up a good chunk of the bed. I don't care though because I am sleeping.

Things here are going well. Pete is painting the nursery this weekend. I will have to try and remember to take some before pictures. We have all the furniture in boxes in the garage. I am looking forward to seeing it all put together. We go to our next ultrasound next Wednesday. I am hoping that the baby is more cooperative than last time, so I can finish registering and make the grandmas happy.

Disappearances

So I disappeared for a couple months. There wasn't all that much exciting going over the summer, just work.

Things have been busy in the last couple months. We drove to FL for Thanksgiving to see my parents. 12 hours in a car is not that fun, but it was good to see them and their new house. We had a quiet week of reading by their pool and enjoying the good weather down at the beach.

Since Thanksgiving, work has been busy. We finally made the move into the new building this past weekend, so the past couple weeks have been packing and the few will be unpacking. I love the new building. I had the furniture people take all my furniture apart and set it up so I could see out the window, so now I see sky and trees over my computer screens. Much better from the last building where I could go all day without seeing daylight.

Pete is getting over the flu, which has been fun for all involved. I felt bad for him last weekend. In the height of his illness our washer broke. He had to drag himself out of bed and vacuum all the water out and then we went to Sears for a new washer and dryer. They were our Christmas gifts to one another. They are nice and very quiet.

We are getting ready to head north for Christmas. I am keeping my fingers crossed for snow. It is the one time I will be able to see it. More on the trip later.

A snack

I was getting hungry just now and wanted a snack. I found a 100 calorie pack of Alphabits in my desk, so I was happy. Wanting a little break from work at the same time, I started spelling out stuff. In this pack I got the words "of", "eve", "go" and the below picture.
I told Pete about this, and he wanted a picture, so I borrowed my boss's camera and cord and took the picture. I think I need more work to do.

Furniture Shopping

Our biggest adventure lately has been furniture shopping. As a joint anniversary present, Pete decided that we could get new living room furniture. The traditional gift for the 2nd year is cotton and furniture fits that category.

We decided to go to Furnitureland South in Jamestown, NC near High Point. We got there when it first opened and that was a good decision. It got busier and busier as the day went on. Our salesman was awesome and very patient. We told him a general idea of what we were looking for, the style we liked and a price range and he brought us the manufactures that best matched. It was a lot harder to pick a couch than I thought. Last time, we walked into the store, pointed and bought. This time, you had to pick arm style, back pillow style, core style and fabric. The 1st two were very easy, the rest took a little more time. We sat on a lot of couches looking for one that was most comfortable. Of course the one I really like was an upgraded one, but we are going to have this furniture for awhile, so it was worth it. They had this library of thousands of fabric samples. The manufacture we bought from had 5 sections. I though I wanted to go sage green, but I couldn't find a solid fabric that was the right color and texture, so we ended up with blue. The couch is a dark blue solid and the chairs are a strip that has the dark blue, a lighter blue, tan and white. I stared at them for at least 30 minutes to make sure I really like them. The salesman's patience was greatly appreciated. He even called out the manufacturer's rep out to help us with seat choices. Pete wanted to see the free choices before we made the choice. The guy went around and gathered cushions and brought them to one couch for us to try. I didn't like any of them and apparently it was obvious in my face. After all this we still needed to find an end table. A lot of walking later, we found one we both liked.

So after 3 and a half hours we have a new living room that should be here in 6-8 weeks.

Last night I was jokingly hitting Pete with the kitchen towel when Zora came running up and jumped up at us. She grabbed the towel and ran into the living room. We don't know if she did it because she thought we were playing or that I was hurting Pete. She did it again when I hit him with the other kitchen towel. I wanted to test the situation with pretending to hit him without the towel, but he wouldn't do it. No fun.

I am looking forward to the long weekend. We are having some people over for a BBQ on Saturday and other than that we have no plans.

2nd Anniversary

Yesterday was our 2nd Anniversary. It is hard to believe that has been two whole years since the wedding.

Work this week is crazy for me but I left early (at 5:30) and headed home. I came home to find these on the counter.

We then headed out to dinner at a yummy steak house.

The steak was so good. The plates come to the table at 500 degrees. We also had salad, mashed potatoes and onion rings. They also brought a free piece of the most chocolaty cake I have ever tasted. Pete wouldn't let me take picture of the food.

We spent the rest of the night relaxing and watching Monday's episode of The Mole. I still don't have a suspect, but Pete thinks the mole is Mark. I don't know if I agree with that because Mark looked genuinely upset that he lost his notebook.

Saturday we are going shopping for our joint anniversary gift. New living room furniture. I am excited to get furniture that won't have staples sticking out.

Back to work. Need to go use my mad skillz of loading PowerPoint presentations.

Vacation Recap

Tuesday
Our flight was smooth. I wish I could say as much for the taxi ride to the hotel. Maybe I have been living in the South too long, but OMG. I thought I was going to die. Weaving in and out of traffic while reading the results of his urinalysis. I was very glad to make it to the hotel. Of course our room wasn't ready, so we went to lunch and then walked. Alot. We went to Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, The Apple Store, Central Park, and Times Square. We took a handsome cab ride through Central Park. It is amazing how the horses are fearless. They just cut right into traffic in front of all the cabs. We had a nice Irishman as a driver.

The hotel said that our room was going to be ready at 3. At 3:30, our room was still not ready and would be at least another hour. We agreed to take two beds instead of a King just to get in a room. We were tired and dirty. After naps and showers, it was time for Wicked!

The show was amazing. I love musicals. Pete evened enjoyed it. When the show got out, we walked back out on to Broadway and there was a large tarped tractor trailer trying to make the turn onto 5oth. He was failing miserably. There were a bunch of cops and lines of traffic being blocked on Broadway. It was very amusing.
Wednesday
We checked out of our hotel and headed up the National Museum of Natural History. There were a lot of screaming children running around unsupervised. The museum was nice.

We headed back to Times Square when were done and had lunch at the ESPN Zone. We spent a little while reading in Byrant Park before heading up to Yankee Stadium. Before we left Manhattan, I had to take a picture of the billboard we were lucky enough to see many many times.
We met Pete's parents at Yankee Stadium and enjoyed a game vs. Toronto. It started to rain, so we left in the 6th inning and headed back to CT.
Thursday
We hung out with Pete's parents. His grandmother and brother came over for dinner. His brother's girlfriend joined us afterwards and we played some Wii.

Friday
My best friend picked us up in CT and drove us up to MA. We picked up her daughter from school and hung out for the day. We had Friendly's, my favorite place in the North. I wish they would move here. We played a rousing game of Junior Monopoly.

Friday night, we went to my step sister's house for dinner. I got to see a lot of family that I haven't seen in awhile. After dinner, Pete and I went out for drinks to Opa Opa with Jesse to see Joe, who was working. I had too much to drink.

Saturday
Morning was very rough. Drinking and I no longer agree in any way. My mom was very nice about it though. We went to the cemetery. My uncle said a few words and we all laid flowers on the grave site. It was nice for family to come together for it. We headed to Westwood for the memorial service. My stepsister did a little presentation. It was nice, even though I didn't feel well. It was nice that family was able to come together.

We spent the rest of Saturday packing up my stuff at my parent's house. It was so weird to see the house with boxes and nothing on the wall and no furniture. It was sad to think it would be the last time I would ever be in that house.

Sunday
My Mom and Ed took us out to breakfast on the way to the airport. It was so nice to finally be heading home. We came home to a burnt lawn and dead flowers. All our neighbors were away the same week, so every ones flowers and bushes are dead. Zora was glad to come home, even though she just slept the first night.
