I finally got a start on thank yous for the wedding. It has been on my list of things to do for two weeks. I am not working, therefore have no excuse not to do it. My Grandmother has apparently been asking my Mom where her card is. Now my Mom is bugging me to do it and I will hear it to no end til its done. It is a good thing that we kept all the cards because I lost a sheet that had a list of people that gave us money and it would not have been good to not send out thank yous.

Other than that, today has been lazy. Zora got a bath, which she hates more than anything. She suffered through it and then got to see cats when we were leaving the grooming door at Petco. That made her happy. We tried giving her a bath yesterday when we got home. We wanted to get the lake water off her before she jumped up into our bed. We wanted to use the car wash station in our complex instead of paying to go to Petso, but the hose in our lovely apartment complex was broken. It looked like someone disconnected it and then smashed it. It won't be fixed for months now because our complex is going downhill.

The other day, we got two letters stuck in our door. One stated that our complex is changing hands. This may be good or bad. Aimco, who used to run our complex, sucked. They didn't fix things and generally were ill tempered. Campus Advantage is the new company. We looked online and they are mostly college housing. We will have to see what they are going to do. Hopefully they won't take away the gym privileges. I just starting using the gym that we get free membership at and I like it. The other letter stated that there was evidence that the pool was being used after hours and that there was alcohol containers and evidence of illegal drug use. They are going to start using the surveillance cameras. Apparently there are cameras installed but they were just sitting there. I guess the presence of them was suppose to scare people off. They also hired an officer to patrol the pool area at night. Can't afford to fill potholes, but can afford an officer to sit and watch a pool. I can not wait to get a house and get out of this complex.

Mission Accomplished

We went to Jordan Lake last night to camp for the night. There wasn't anyone else there. Noone else is sane enough to camp in 100 degree weather. Zora had alot fun. We brought her to go swimming. She is the biggest chicken you have ever met. She is a lab mix that hates water. She doesn't even like walking on grass that is covered dew. We figured that maybe if we got in the water, she would too. It worked. Slowly. She mostly came to us, turned around and went back to shore.

Sometimes we had to turn her around. She thought that she could climb on top of us. She was not too fond of the sound of the lapping water. Whenever a boat's wake would hit shore, she would get all nervous and run away from the water. The rest of the time she enjoyed laying around the campsite and watching the woods. In the end she was the only one who slept. We got up early and packed up, so we could come home and sleep.

We talked to a Mortage Specialist today just to see what options were and what we need to save. There is hope that we won't have to wait forever according to her. That makes me happy. The sooner I get a job, the closer a house is.

We are going camping overnight at Jordan Lake today. Should be interesting. Look later for more on that one.

My name is almost changed. Today I went to the DMV and changed the title and registration on my car. When I got home, I called Geico to see if we could combine car insurance, so that we could pay the bills at the same time. I also wanted to see if I could get my rate lower. I was paying $267 every 6 months because I had a speeding ticket a few years ago. For those who know what I drive, that was way too much. So I talked to the lady at Geico and asked her and she said since we were combining the policies onto Pete's (he had more tenor) that mine should go down. Since Pete has the new car his insurance was $314 every 6 months. Not much more than mine and the cars are 14 years apart, but whatever. Pete's insurance is only going up $5 bucks by adding my car. That is a huge savings. We should have gotten married a long time ago. That made my day.

On the job front, there isnt that much activity. I got notice of a few jobs at WakeMed. A little far to drive, but I need a job. So we will see.

Other than that, nothing else is going on. I watch TV, workout and cook.

Pictures from Ottawa

Here are a few pictures from our trip to Ottawa.

These are the lochs that I was obessed with. I sat for hours reading by them and watching the water move. I don't know what is about them, but they were cool. Pete didnt understand it.

This is a picture of Parliment Hall. I didn't tour it because the line was always really long, but I watched the changing of the guards on the front lawn.

Pete is going to kill me when he sees this picture online, but I think it was one of best from the trip. He was enjoying his lobster from a restaurant near our hotel.

Yesterday was a lazy day. We got up late again. I love being on vacation. We went to a Irish pub called Darcy McGee's for lunch, then walked along the locks toward an interesting looking park. We ended up going to Canada's National Gallery of Art. It had air conditioning and looked interesting. We saw the Notre Dame Cathedral. We then came back to the hotel and took a nap.

Today was a much earlier start. Pete had to meet GK (a fellow IBMer) at the conference at 800, which means we had to leave the hotel at 730. I walked him to the conference and then had breakfast at the hotel that was connected to conference center. My one expensive hotel breakfast. Not worth it, but there wasnt anything else around. I then sat by the locks and read for awhile. At 930 I went to Parliment Hill to see the changing of the guards. It was really cool, and the music was interesting. One of the band member fainted in the middle of the cermony. I dont blame him, it was damn hot and they are in heavy uniforms with bear fur hats. After sitting in the sun, I need air conditioning. I went to the Rideau Centre Mall and walked around and read until Pete and GK met me for lunch. After lunch I walked over the Ottawa River to the Musuem of Civilization. It was ok, but not worth the heat or the 10 bucks to get in. I walked back through Byward Market to meet Pete. I got there in time to see the end of his presentation and let him leave early. Sitting outside the conference reminded me of being at RPI. A whole lot of dorks. The bad kind of dorks.

I am now ready for bed. Walking in the heat is tiring. One more day and then home to Zora and my bed.

Our first day in Ottawa was relaxing. We didn't get in til really late last night. My first encounter with Customs was interesting. I was carrying a can of peaches and wasnt sure if I had to declare it, so I asked. I got a very sarcastic answer. The trip was off to a great start. We got a shuttle to take us to our hotel. I was looking foward to the hotel. It advertised very comfy beds. Well we walked into the lobby and noticed it was very warm. We get to the front desk and they informed us that the air conditioning was out and they weren't sure when it would be fixed. They changed our reservation to a hotel across the street. So we walked over and checked in, then find out their pool is broken. Can't seem to win.

We slept late and then got up and started walking. It wasnt very busy. About 10 minutes into our walk, we hear yelling in french and english, so we go investigate. On the stairs to the Parliment, there is a demonstration/rally going on. We never did find out what it was for, but the Lord and taking control was mentioned alot. Pete called it Bible revolution. We saw the locks on the Rideau Canal. It takes 3 hours to go up the lock system. We then went to a mall of sorts and had lunch at this really interesting restaurant. The food was really good and after paying I got back my first Candian currency. I really want one of the purple bills, but I have yet to get one. We found where Pete's conference was going to be.

We came back to our hotel and took a nap and then went out to dinner. There was an Italian restuarant right near our hotel that looked good. Pete was excited because he got to have lobster. It was the first Italian restuarant that I have been to that did have chicken parm, but the food was really good.

After dinner, we came to the lounge in our hotel for a drink, and the table we were at was soon surround with a group of people that we could only guess had just taken a test to judge figure skating. I never knew that you had to take a test to do that and surprisingly there were alot of guys in the group.

So far the thing that I like the most is how Candians talk. Thier accent is so interesting. I can't describe it, but it makes me happy. Some of the investigators I used to work with had the same accent, and now I am in a country where they all talk like it.

Thats about it for today. We have the internet thanks to IBM, so I can post most days. No pictures til I get home though.

Captain was here this past weekend and that always makes life more interesting. One thing I love about our dog is that in the house she is calm. Every once in awhile she get burst of energy, but for the most part she just chills with us. Captain ,on the other hand, never stops moving. He is always looking for ways to get to you. It seems he never sleeps, even at night. He barks at every little noise he hears. Scares you a bit at 3am. He also never sleeps past 6 am. Zora will sleep til 10 if we dont wake her up, but 6 am comes and there is Captain at the side of the bed. I love him, but not that early. That is when he gets a walk and then goes down to his crate.

Other than Captain, the weekend was uneventful. Pete stayed home yesterday because he has a staph infection in his eye. How he got it we haven't figured out, but he is now on antibiotics. Hopefully they work because we leave on Friday for Canada and it would suck if he had to go to his conference with a swollen eye.

I am getting used to not working. I have been going to the gym everyday and yesterday I had my first personal training session. I decided to give in to the price. I am trying to make it worth it by counting points again, so hopefully it will work. My shoulders are hurting today because we did upper body today. I had trouble bringing my shirt over my head, but that shows its working. Right? I looked up our hotel and it has a gym, so that makes me happy. I can at least do cardio while Pete is in the conference.

I cleaned today and it is so much nicer. There are no milkbone crumbs on the floor and it smells clean.

Our wedding proofs came in the mail yesterday. Its amazing how quickly things move with digital photos. They came out pretty good. There are some I don't like and will definately not blowing up.

Well I am off to bed cuz tomorrow is a long day.

I had my Fitness evaluation at my new gym today. It was totally worthless. I was hoping that I would learn how to use some of the machines. It is a bit overwhelming walking in there and seeing everything and not knowing how to use any of it. The trainer was nice, but I didn't learn anything except how much training session are. As I think about I really want to do it. My goal now is to get in better shape and while cardio is good, I need some weight training. The price is a little steep, but I am no longer paying for a gym membership and it is a one time fee. I talked to PP and he said that he could show me how to use it, and though I love him, I question how qualified he is to do it. For the longest time, he didn't go to a gym, and he just recently joined the gym at IBM. I know that he wants to save money and so do I, but I think it may be necessary to reach my goal.

Wednesday, July 05, 2006

Ok so I had this long post written about the wedding. I thought I was doing so well and then it was lost. GRRR! I will have to start over. A little later I think.

Today I spent two and a half hours in the Social Security office. I got there just about when it opened and I still had to wait. There were people who got there hours before it opened to wait. When my number finally got called, the entire process only took 2 minutes. I had to sign my married name for the first time. It was really wierd, but now I have a new card on the way and when we get back from Canada, I can change everything else.

I liked getting up early today. I think I am going to try to do it more. Not working is kinda boring. I have things to do, but not a whole lot of motivation to get them done. Knowing I have a lot of time makes me put things off. Today my goal is to clean the linen closet. I have to make room for the new towels.

I finally quit Curves. I have known for awhile that the workout there was challenging, but I felt guilty quitting. Like I was letting someone down. I finally got over it. I joined Millennium, which is free with our lease. I like it so far and definately like watching TV as I work out instead of staring at a wall.

I am off to continue being productive and will sometime post about the wedding.

***Added Post***
The wedding week was busy. We drove up on Monday night and got to Pete's parents on Tueday morning. We spent the rest of the day sleeping, relaxing and putting together cake boxes. The next day we went to my parents house. We just relaxed that day too.

Thursday started the fun. In the morning, Ed took us to Springfield to set up his gift to us. We then checked into the hotel where we both were staying that night. We had an appointment at the Log Cabin to drop everything off and give our final payment. That went alot quicker that planned. We went back to the hotel to relax. Kat and her husband had arrived, so we talked to them. We then had to head to CT, to pick up my cousin and his girlfriend from the airport. They were running late, so we had to drop them off at my mom's to see my grandmother. I got to skip out, because my bachlorette party was that night. Upon arriving back at the hotel I saw that Emily had been hard at work decorating our hotel room. I had a blow up doll named Pete that was a ring toss game. After greeting my aunt and cousin who had arrived from CA, we headed out. Kat, Emily, Jesse and I went bowling. To my surprise Katewa was there. I was so excited to see her. It had been 3 years. She had driven all the way from RI and was driving back that night to work the next day.

After bowling, we said goodbye to Katewa and went back to the hotel to pick up Alyssa who had flown in. We then headed to a bar in Springfield. The Salty Dog. It had an mechanical bull, which I rode, twice. We had alot of fun and didnt get too wasted.

The next day Kat, Alyssa, Emily and I got our nails done and did some last minute errands. The rehersal was short and went really well. Rehersal dinner was really good. The restaurant gave us excellent service and the shots my cousin bought me helped things.

Everyone seemed to have fun. This table mostly knew each other.

Ed and Pete's Dad enjoyed the bar.

Pete and I had to start getting up in front of people for the first of many times in the coming weekend.

The day of the wedding:
It started very early. It was raining and that put me in kinda a bad mood, but I wasnt going to let anything ruin the day. Emily came and picked me up and then we picked up Kat and Alyssa at the hotel to go get our hair done.

We then went back to my house and got ready.

It was so hot at the house, but everything was running on time.

We took some pictures and then headed to the church.
Even though we got there early, it started late. I apparently could not handle something because I cried. Alot. Seeing all the people and Pete standing on the altar, I lost it. The ceremony was perfect. I dont remember alot of details, but it seem to go well.

The reception was perfect. From the minute we got there til the moment we left, we could not have asked for anything more.
Tim was our personal waiter and he had the magically refilling drinks.

The one drink before we dance rule was shot out the window.
Our dance surprised everyone and even though we were trashed it came out well. Orshi would have been mad at a few moves. Oh well.

The food was great, the music was good and it was so good to see all the people. The rain stopped and we took some pictures outside. The reception was over way to quick.

There was an afterparty at my Mom's, where I got to see some friends some more. After that I was exhausted. Pete and I left to check into our hotel.

The next day, Pete and I had breakfast with his parents and his mom's side of the family.

After that we went to Magic Wings, a butterfly conservatory with two of his aunts and uncles and some cousins. It was alot of fun.

We then returned the tuxes and went to my parents house to pick everything up.

Monday we headed to Pete's parents one last time and then started the trip home. Because of flooding in DC, we had to take a road through PA to get home. It was the same distance and a much nicer drive. It was so good to be home.
